The study of an artifact on display is a painting series developed as an antithesis to the dominant practice of representing artworks and artifacts from Africa and the Global South in Western museums and institutions. Often, these representations neglect the context and reality from which these works originate. This series aims to make visible the cultural, human, and political biographies of the works, encompassing the people who created them and the violence involved in their acquisition.
