Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen (b. 1992) is a multidisciplinary artist and visual anthropologist. His research interests center on critical media studies, the politics of representation, and decolonial methodologies. By combining his academic work in anthropology with his studio practice, he aims to develop methods that critically address the complex political and epistemological inconsistencies in representations, particularly within ethnographic studies and post/colonial discourses.
Mekonnen is currently a Visual Anthropology Fellow at the University of Bonn and a Gerda Henkel Research Fellow at the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum (RJM).
